$150,000 in Holiday Credits for Members

It’s the cooperative difference! At the November Butler Electric Cooperative board meeting, your Board of Trustees approved a $150,000 holiday credit. This credit was returned to our membership in the form of a bill credit on your December bill.

We hope you noticed the credit and know that your management team and trustees are honored to serve our membership and strive to do so as cost effectively as possible.

Comparing Your Bills
When comparing your January and December electric charges, please consider the effect the holiday credit had on your December bill, as well as the drop in temperatures. Historically, members tend to have a 20 percent increase on their January electric bill due to the blustery Kansas winter temperatures.

For a better comparison, review your January 2019 bill and compare it to your January 2018 bill. Also keep in mind that in December of 2015, our Board of Trustees approved revenue neutral rate changes that adjust each January. You may notice a slight increase in the customer charge but a decrease in the kWh charge. This allows us to track our costs more accurately, as well as protect members from extremely hot summers and cold winters.

Our SmartHub app is available to all members and is a useful tool to review usage history, report outages and make payments. SmartHub is available on our website at Always feel free to contact our office with any questions that you may have about your electric usage or charges.
The next time you call our office, you may notice we have implemented a brief automated message. To serve our members more efficiently, you will now be prompted to select the department you would like to speak with, Butler or Velocity. Once selected, you will be promptly forwarded to a friendly representative. Our goal is to provide a top-notch customer service experience and hope this simple step will minimize your hold time.

Pony Meadows Update
2018 was a productive and exciting year at Butler! The Pony Meadows Solar Farm located south of Andover was completed, and became operational in December providing a cost-effective way to generate electricity. We will host an open house for our membership to tour the farm this spring.

Velocity Update
Velocity high-speed internet, local TV and home phone service was also launched and is now available in Zone 1 and 2. Be sure to visit to sign-up for service or learn more about our products and pricing.
