New Solar Farm Adds to Butler’s Power Mix
Another project in the works is incorporating solar energy production into our portfolio. Butler Electric Cooperative is slated to install a 1-megawatt solar farm near our Pony Meadows substation. The energy produced at our solar farm will help us control power cost.. The solar farm will be aligned for maximum exposure and rotate to follow the sun.
Monitoring Energy Use to Decrease Your Electric Bill
With your help, our goal is to reduce our power cost during “peak hours,” Monday through Friday, 3 to 6 p.m., when demand is high and the price of energy is at a premium. Fifty-three percent of our annual power bill is based on power consumed during our peak hours. This is due to the “demand” or need for energy production during those hot, summer hours.
Awareness of your energy use patterns can help reduce costs on your electric bill. I challenge you to start monitoring how your household uses electricity. By simply avoiding household chores such as laundry and increasing your thermostat 3 degrees, you can do your part to help keep costs down.
The demand component of your electric bill is based on energy used Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Minimum demand for the year is set during the months of July or August (whichever month is higher).
