Manager's Report - March 2018
Learn More About Velocity Internet at Annual Meeting on March 15
President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Rural Electrification Act into law on May 21, 1936, creating the Rural Electric Administration as a lending agency for electric cooperatives. This administration assisted groups of farmers to install distribution lines to secure electricity and eventually form Butler Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Two short years later, we held our first Annual Meeting at the courthouse in El Dorado and all interested farmers and landowners were encouraged to attend.
Eighty years later, we carry on the tradition of the Annual Meeting and continue to provide progressive services to our membership. Butler is excited to deliver another service that is sure to have a positive impact on our rural communities, much like electricity did in the 1930s. In the next 12-18 months, we will provide reliable, high-speed internet service at a competitive price. Price and package options will be announced at our 80th Annual Meeting on March 15 at Circle Middle School in Benton and we encourage all members to attend.
Golf carts will be provided to shuttle you to and from your car with dinner served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Following the meal, we encourage you to visit the many displays including our internet service, Velocity. Butler Electric Cooperative staff will also be available to discuss whole home generation, energy efficiency strategies or renewable energy options, and for those of you with children, don’t forget about the bounce house in Kid’s Korner.
The business meeting and election of trustees will begin at 7 p.m. This year Districts 1, 4 and 6 will have elections. The nominee for District 1, Newton-Whitewater is Gary Hill, the nominee for District 4, Derby- Mulvane is Jerry Staab and the nominee for District 6, Douglass/Leon is Boyd Ray.
Profiles for these nominees were included in last month’s edition of this magazine. If you are unable to attend the Annual Meeting, we encourage you to vote by proxy.
With the exciting announcement of high-speed internet service, this will be a meeting you won’t want to miss! Due to the high interest in internet services, we encourage you to RSVP by calling our office or email firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to seeing you on the 15th!
