Manager's Report - November 2016
Butler Electric Board Elects New Logo
Let your voice be heard
Republican, Democrat, Independent or other, I encourage you to exercise your right to vote on Election Day. This is a very critical presidential election for our country and several key Kansas legislative races will be decided also.
We’ve joined with hundreds of other electric co-ops across the country in a national program to turn out as many co-op voters as possible on Election Day. That program is called Co-ops Vote. Co-ops Vote is a non-partisan initiative of America’s electric cooperatives. that seeks to mobilize our co-op employees and members to boost the political clout of rural America. In the 2012 elections, turnout among rural voters decreased by 18 percent—twice the decline seen nationally. This means the voice of rural communities isn’t resonating with our elected leaders as strongly as it should.
As a member-owned business with deep ties in seven counties, Butler Electric Co-op is keenly aware of the needs facing our communities. Everyone should have a voice in selecting the candidates whom they feel will best serve their community. Every vote counts, now more than ever.
New name, new look
The next time you call our office you will be greeted with a friendly voice thanking you for calling Butler Electric Cooperative. Did you notice anything missing? Trustees and employees unanimously agreed to drop the Rural from our business name.
With less than half of our membership considered ‘rural,’ the name tended to be misleading and confusing. Often times, the Butler REC logo and name was mistaken for our local recreation departments! Our hope is that by removing the word Rural from the name, our identity will become clearer to future and new members. Rest assured, even though our name is a bit different and the logo a little sharper, our dedicated employees will continue to provide best-in-class customer service to our members.
Thank you, veterans
At Butler, we are among the more than 900 electric co-ops across the country to support and honor our nation’s veterans of all generations. We are grateful to veterans within our ranks and honored to serve veterans and their families within our local communities. We at Butler Electric Cooperative are proud to be a part of a cooperative network that honors and supports veterans of all ages, ranks and branches of the military.
